Invitation
Dear Friends,
On behalf of Temple Beth Shalom, I would like to personally invite you to a very special Friday night service that is being held in conjunction to our congregation’s Reaching Across Faith Boundaries Initiative.
On Friday evening, May 21st, we are honored to welcome Dr. Asif Razvi as our guest speaker. Our service will begin at 7:45 pm.
Dr. Razvi’s presentation will focus on the common roots and beliefs shared by both Muslims and Jews. The service will be followed by a delicious dessert reception.
Dr. Razvi is President of the Islamic Center of Boston, located in Wayland, and has lectured extensively on the similarities amongst Islam, Christianity and Judaism. Dr. Razvi was a founder of the Weston-Wayland Interfaith Action Group, a founder of Camp IF (InterFaith) a nationally recognized leadership training program sponsored by the ADL for New England teenagers to explore each other’s faith traditions. In addition Dr. Razvi is also the chief of vascular surgery at St. Elizabeth’s Medical Center and a clinical professor of surgery at Tufts University School of Medicine.
Please join our community on Friday, May 21, 2010 at 7:45 p.m. for a most informative and enjoyable evening. Please RSVP by May 18, 2010 as I would very much like to welcome you that night. If you have any questions or need additional information, please do not hesitate to contact me.
Shalom/Salaam/Peace……

Sunday, May 23… PENTECOST
The Feast Day service will be a day of celebration. It is the birthday of the church. It is traditional to have baptisms on Pentecost; we have four baptisms. It is also the day where the service will be packed with your favorite Spiritual and Gospel tunes. Just bring yourself and an enthusiastic spirit. We want to sing out to the rafters! We will be one in the Spirit. Bring your appetite, too. After all that singing, we’ll have worked up an appetite for birthday cake which will be served during coffee hour after the service.
June 5 Summer Schedule Begins
One service at 9:00 am in the Chapel
There will be no regular organist and no choir for summer services, which means there will be many solo opportunities. Sign-up sheets will be posted on the music bulletin board in Upper Parish Hall. Maybe you sing, or play the piano (we have a new baby-grand), play your guitar, or any instrumental ensemble. Also hymn suggestions from the congregation are vital in the summer. Suggestion boxes will be placed at both entrances to the chapel.

Longwood Opera Presents US Premiere at Christ Church
Tales from the Ring of the Nibelung to be performed in June Needham’s own Longwood Opera welcomes its 24th consecutive season of bringing “Opera to All” with the United States premiere of Tales from Der Ring des Nibelungen (The Ring of the Nibelung) by Richard Wagner.
Presented concert style and directed by Scott Brumit with music direction by Jeffrey Brody, the program will be sung in English and feature a Longwood Opera all star cast of Ben Clark, Janice Edwards, Stephanie Mann, Joanne Porackova, Alan Schneider, Rachel Selan, Christopher Aaron Smith, Angeliki Theoharis and Thomas Weber.
Performances are:
June 4th at 7 pm
June 6th at 2 pm
Christ Episcopal Church
There will also be a single performance:
June 13th at 2 pm
Park Avenue Congregational Church 50 Paul Revere Rd., Arlington
“This unique production highlights excerpts from all four of the operas in “The Ring” cycle—Das Rheingold, Die Walküre, Siegfried and Götterdämmerung— so that they may be appreciated in a single performance and provide the opportunity for our audiences to experience the music and majesty of Wagner,” said J. Scott Brumit, Longwood Opera’s General Director. “Usually, it’s the large opera companies like the Met, Chicago or San Francisco that take on a project of this proportion, but now we are the first in the US to present it. We hope you’ll come and enjoy.”
Tickets at the door for all performances are $23 general admission, $18 seniors, $15 students and $13 children, 10 and under. Tickets are also available in advance at www.LongwoodOpera.org. For additional information call 781-455-0960.
