- Christ Church Renews its Commitment to Planned Giving

In 2001, your Committee on Planned Giving designed
a program for funding the future needs of Christ Church.
At that time, members carefully assessed the areas of
greatest significance for the coming years. These were
designated as

Mission and Outreach
Property Repairs and Maintenance
Socially Responsible Investing
Disposition of Mortgage

These five categories became the parts of a Five Point Program of the Christ Church Foundation. We are pleased to say that the mortgage was retired last year as a result of funds generated from the Five Point program. Now, as resources become available to the Church through bequests from wills and other donations, that money has been added to the Five Point portion of the endowment.

Our principal form of support is, and always will be, Stewardship. However, we always have supplemented Stewardship funds with a distribution, around 5%, from our endowed funds to meet the annual operating needs of the Church. It will be necessary to increase our endowment substantially as we project our needs for the future, including the fulfillment of our Christian mission to help others.

During the 2001 initiative, thirty-one families heeded our call for remembering Christ Church, either in their wills or by making alternative financial commitments to the Christ Church Foundation. Their names are on two plaques located in the southwest corner of the Upper Parish Hall. We would love to double that number!

As we proceed through 2006 and beyond, we expect to use The Visitor and the website to inform the parish about the opportunities for Planned Giving. Many of you may already receive explanations and descriptions of programs of this sort from your schools and colleges and are probably aware of the long-term benefit and the foundation for the future. Look for more information from us next month.
