2007-2008 Family Ministries’ Program
Welcome to the 2007-2008 Program Year! We are delighted to have your children with us for new year of growing in the Christian faith. Please join us Sunday, September 9th at 9:00 AM for our Total Ministry Fair! Church School registration will take place at this event. Information about Confirmation, Youth Group, Acolytes, the Choirs and Adult Education will also be available. Bring your family and come and explore the many opportunities for ministries in which you – and your children can become involved! Church School begins on Sunday, September 16th at 9:30 AM.
Our Pre-K - 3rd Grade Program
We continue to use the innovative Godly Play curriculum with our younger children. Using manipulatives and wondering questions, we share the power of the Christian faith through the biblical story. This fall, we focus on the Parables of Jesus,. This exciting way of sharing the faith invites our children to find their place in the story of God’s people. Our Pre-K – 1st graders will meet each Sunday upstairs in the Chapel. Following the story, they will use the space at the back of the Chapel to reflect on the story through a variety of media (painting, drawing, playing with stories, etc.) Our 2nd & 3rd graders will meet downstairs in the Holy Land and their reflection time will follow in the lower parish hall.
Our 4th & 5th Grade Program
Our 4th and 5th graders will be working with Sharing the Joy. This two-year Episcopal curriculum meets our developing young people where they are. They will still be working with the great stories of the Bible, but in a way that helps them move from hearing the story to working with the written text. They will explore themes of what it means to be part of a Christian community through service and fun, and learn more about worship and life in the Episcopal tradition.
Our 6th & 7th Grade Program
Our 6th and 7th graders will be experiencing the first two years of the Journey to Adulthood program in September. Called Rite-13, the first year invites our emerging adolescents to explore what it means to be made in the image and likeness of God. The focus of the first year is a liturgical blessing ceremony which recognizes that our young people have left their childhoods behind and have begun their journey to adulthood. This powerful service of blessing will be shared with the entire Christ Church family at the Family Worship service on Sunday, March 2, 2008.
