Welcome to our church’s Music Pages.
Music plays an integral part in our parish life. Through our music, we join hearts and voices in faith, hope and celebration. With our music, we bring the seasons of the church to life and amplify and illuminate the varied tapestry that makes up our church year.
Our music program is under the direction of Dr. John Whiteside. Dr. Whiteside is an experienced church musician who has studied organ with Anton Heiller and conducting with Robert Shaw. Dr. Whiteside believes that music is an outpouring of the heart, and offers his skills to help, teach, train and encourage anyone who wishes to make music in our parish. We can find a place for you.
We have many choirs.
Our Adult Choir meets on Thursday evenings from 7:00 to 9:00. New members are encouraged to join us. There is no audition.
We have not one but three Youth Choirs at Christ Church: the St. Ceceilia Choir (grades 5 and up), the Kyrie Choir (grades 2-4) and the Julian Choir (grades K-1). These choirs meet with Myra Anderson and Kim Lysaght on Monday afternoons at 4:30. We welcome new members! For more information, please see the Youth Choir page.
We also have handbells. A Youth Bell Choir meets on Mondays from 5:30 to 6:15 and is open to anyone in fifth grade and above. An Adult Bell Choir meets from 7:00 to 8:00, also on Mondays. New members are welcome.
From time to time throughout the year we present special musical events. Here are highlights of our Fall musical offerings:
- U2charist on Sunday, October 21 at 5:00
- Choral Evensong with the Adult Choir on Sunday, November 18 at 5:00
- Lessons and Carols: An Advent Processional on Sunday, December 16 at 7:00
In addition, Christ Church hosts the Longwood Opera, a Needham based opera company featuring area singers and musicians. More information can be found at their website.
For more information about any of our musical activities, please contact Dr. Whiteside through the church office (781) 444-1469 or e-mail johnwhiteside@ccneedham.org.
