Please tell us about any legal issues that might impact the relationship between your teenager and his/her youth leaders (e.g. in a divorce, who has custody, is there any danger of parental abduction, etc.)
Are there any health issues the youth leadership team should know about?
Are there any concerns you have about the youth leaders' relationship or how the youth leaders relate to your teenager?
Is there anything you'd like the youth leaders to know about your teenager?
The youth leadership team are adults who give their time, skill and creativity to help young people grow in their faith and living through a consistent Christian relationship. A youth leader is not a parent, a peer, a therapist, a bank or your teenager’s savior (that is Christ’s job!) Nor are the youth leaders perfect! You should expect the youth leaders:
- To make and keep commitments to your teenager
- To respect you and members of your household
- To make sure you are informed in advance about your teenager’s activities
- To have an appropriate, respectful relationship with your teenager
- To avoid even the appearance of impropriety (e.g., by not being alone with your child, giving him/her more than occasional token gifts, giving him/her money, encouraging dependence, etc.)
- To help your child practice a ministry of his/her choosing in the church or community
- To be a person of faith, willing to share his/her faith with your teenager and pray for you and your teenager
Your teenager’s youth leadership team is doing this as a ministry. Do not feel obligated to repay the youth leaders in any way. Expressing your appreciation and thanks is always helpful, as is telling the youth leaders about anything positive you have observed in your teenager, which you feel is an outgrowth of the youth leaders’ relationship.
I/We grant permission for our teenager to participate in the mentoring program. I/We
Understand the youth leaders will undergo a background check and training. I/We
accept this as appropriate and adequate preparation for this responsibility. I/We grant
the youth leaders permission the right to transport my/our teenager in the presence of
another adult, to work with my /our teenager in a ministry of the church and/or other
social or work activities related to the youth program. I/We do not give permission to
engage in activities outside of the youth program without our express permission.
